Orthotic Laboratory

Have you ever had something custom made just for you? From a special wedding dress or tailored suit to those beautiful window treatments or cushions that pull your decorating scheme together, custom-made articles give comfort, pleasure, and make you feel good. Imagine then how it would feel to have shoes or shoe inserts designed especially for you. Our orthotic laboratory can design supports for your particular feet—with all of their quirks and idiosyncrasies—that make you say “Ahh!”

Custom OrthoticsWhy Would I Need Custom Supports?

Relief from foot and ankle pain is the main reason. Your lower limb discomfort can have many causes—everything from plantar fasciitis or Achilles tendonitis to bunions and hammertoes. You may have put up with it for a while, because that’s what we seem to do when it happens in our feet. You shouldn’t wait, though. The sooner you tackle the cause of your pain, the better your chance that something like a simple orthotic will solve the problem. Custom inserts can relieve irritation and help make your feet more stable.

Accommodative Orthotics

If your problem is diabetic foot ulcers or painful calluses, these supports are designed with cushioning right where you need it. They are made of pliable, soft materials that protect your feet from abrasion and irritation from your shoes. These can be useful if you just need extra cushioning for a long day on your feet at work or a short evening in dressy heels. They don’t correct any foot problems, but they can relieve the pain that your condition can cause.

Functional Orthotics

These devices go several steps beyond providing comfort. They can help redistribute your weight more evenly over your soles to reduce stressed areas. They can also help correct imbalances from overpronation or other faulty foot mechanics. When your arch is not supported properly, you can end up with injuries like plantar fasciitis, shin splints, or tendonitis that may become very painful. Custom orthotics fit your feet perfectly, giving proper support right where you need it. They are usually fabricated from more rigid materials like plastic or graphite.

Get Help from Our Computerized Orthotic Laboratory

At Aadvanced Foot Care Associates, we can fit your feet right in our office. Our CAD-CAM machine takes computerized images of your foot while it is held in a position that will relieve your pain. The readings are then transferred to a computerized milling machine which forms the basic shell of the orthotic. We then hand-modify and finish it so it fits your foot perfectly while holding it in a position that relieves your discomfort.

We will explain how to gradually let your feet adjust to the new orthotics. Once you are used to the new positioning of your foot structure, your pain usually disappears, allowing you to resume your favorite activities. What a relief it is to go for that long walk or come home from work without those aching, tired feet putting a damper on things!
